The architecture of Berkeley deserves a book by itself--and serious books on the subject do exist. One of its true architectural delights is the reproduction of a Northern France village, La Normandie, as it is known, at the bottom of Spruce. The buildings themselves positively ooze charm--step inside the cobbled courtyard and you are no longer in America. (Of course, there are a few error-prone folk who might say that about crossing the Berkeley boundary!) And the walls have at least a couple of mediaeval-inspired frescoes, including this heraldic golden lion rampant.
