Hidden and Not So Hidden Gems of Berkeley
What, you may ask is a triskelion (also called a triskele)? It is a motif consisting of three interlocked spirals, or—as here—three bent human legs, or any similar symbol with three protrusions and a threefold rotational symmetry. Yeah, I didn’t know that until I had checked with our modern font of wisdom, Wikipedia. In the abstract, spiral form, it can be found in many cultures, East and West, including some corporate logos. In the three-legged form it is most often either Manxian (from the Isle of Man) or Sicilian. Hard to tell which this might be, but my guess would be Manxian, since the Sicilian version often features a face in the center circle (as at the excellent Trattoria La Siciliana on College). This one decorates the wall of a home on Buena Vista Way, up a little from Le Roy Avenue.
